Social Security benefits are possible for mental conditions

Mental conditions like severe depression, bipolar disorders and many others often seem to strike out of nowhere. Like physical conditions, mental disorders can be debilitating and may interfere with the patient's ability to remain employed. As you might expect, having a reduced or absent income in turn impacts the patient's ability to receive treatment. It can be likened to a circle in which one adversity creates another, worsening the original adversity and around it goes.

Fortunately, the Social Security Administration offers benefits to people suffering from some mental conditions. On the downside, qualifying for Social Security Disability benefits can be a complex process. The SSA assesses all impairments before benefits can be authorized, but mental conditions are typically difficult to measure.

Patients can increase their chances of having their disability claim approved by providing solid evidence validating their claim. Examples of this evidence may include doctor records, statements from family members and a completed activities of daily living questionnaire. If you cannot provide adequate evidence to support your claim, the SSA will pay for a mental or psychiatric exam on your behalf. This may or may not result in an approval.

As attorneys serving the Philadelphia region of Pennsylvania, we want you to know that a lawyer can help with your case. In addition to assisting you with the initial claims process, an attorney can aid you in acquiring the right documentation and helping you file an appeal if your claim was denied. You can find a large amount of knowledgeable information about Social Security Disability benefits for mental conditions by visiting our up-to-date website.
