Social Security fast-track disability benefits list extended

Pennsylvania residents who suffer from conditions that render them unable to work are often relying on Social Security benefits to get by from month to month. Claims for Social Security disability benefits typically take between three and five months for processing to be finalized. This is considerably longer than the processing time for other Social Security claims.

The importance of work-zone safety regulations

Both Pennsylvania drivers and construction workers should be aware of safety regulations surrounding work zones. As a result of the state legislature's approval of a large amount of funding, roadside crews will be working on more projects this year. While on the road, drivers should be alert to the presence of work crews, construction vehicles and flagmen, and they should be prepared to slow down or stop in these areas.

Avoiding electrical hazards at the workplace

Every day, employees of industries and businesses in Pennsylvania and across the country are exposed to a variety of electrical equipment that could put them in danger of being injured or even killed. In fact, electrical accidents rank as one of the major causes for on-the-job deaths in the United States. An estimated 300 workers die and 4,000 are hurt annually, as reported by the Electrical Safety Foundation.

Number of Social Security disability beneficiaries at a high

Losing the ability to work may be difficult for an employee in Pennsylvania to handle. Work provides a sense of productivity and purpose, and it also provides a paycheck. When a person is told by a doctor that returning to the workplace is no longer an option because of a mental or physical disability, he or she fortunately can take advantage of Social Security disability benefits. These benefits can help incapacitated workers to get the money they need in order to survive.

Some Social Security disability beneficiaries abuse the system

Being able to work a job can make a person feel proud and self-sufficient. This is why getting word that one cannot keep working due to a mental or physical condition can be disheartening in Pennsylvania. Social Security Disability Insurance benefits can help to ease the financial burden people may feel if they can no longer make a living for themselves and their families. The concern is that some people are abusing the system and filing claims for benefits they don't really need.

Chainsaw winds up in man's neck

A workplace injury landed one man in the hospital after being hurt by a chainsaw. The accident occurred in Ross. The man was cutting down a tree by 721 Perry Highway at the time of the accident as part of his employment with a tree service company. At about 2:30 p.m., the man lost control of the chainsaw that he was using while operating in a crane.

Veterans could receive Social Security disability benefits faster

Thousands of this nation's citizens from all over the country, including here in Pennsylvania, have put themselves in harm's way to protect the ideals upon which this country was founded. When they return home injured, the government that sent them to fight should do what it can to take care of them. In an effort to do just that, a new process has been instituted to ensure that veterans' claims for Social Security disability benefits are expedited.

Pennsylvania school worker suffers skull fracture

Philadelphia parents, students and teachers may be following the story of the conflict resolution specialist who was knocked out in the hallway of a local high school following an alleged altercation with a 17-year-old student. John Bartram High School officials suspended the student from school, and authorities charged him as a juvenile with two counts of assault.
