Social Security disability programs offer positive impact

When a Pennsylvania resident is faced with permanent disability, they often need assistance to financially make ends meet. Beginning the process of filing for Social Security disability benefits can be intimidating and confusing for many people. Social Security disability programs have a positive impact on the lives of those who are successfully accepted. Although many people are originally denied when they first claim, legal assistance may help achieve a more desired outcome.

Because the Social Security disability restrictions in the U.S. are some of the most stringent around the world, being accepted into a program can be difficult. A person's medical history is taken deeply into account, and eligibility can be determined strictly from evidence provided. This helps to minimize fraud and keep payments accurate, supporting those who truly need the help.

Reports show that less than seven percent of SSDI beneficiaries were able to work even a little, and, of that number, three percent made less than $10,000 annually. Terminal and severely incapacitating illness and physical ailments keep many of those who receive benefits from being able to earn a living. However, the programs do encourage beneficiaries to work if able, and help provide financial support to keep the needy out of extreme poverty.

Although the financial assistance offered with SSDI can be moderate -- sometimes less than half of a person's previous earning -- the amount can make a difference in the life of someone who is disabled and not able to work. Social Security disability programs offer many positive advantages to the people who gain benefits. A Pennsylvania resident, who fears having difficulty with acceptance into a Social Security disability program, may seek professional guidance in order to gain an edge on the application process.
